According to Deloitte’s latest Digital Consumer Trends research, an increasing number of people are becoming acquainted with artificial intelligence (AI) and the metaverse. The study reveals a significant rise in awareness about the metaverse: 36 percent of respondents have heard of it, and 22 percent possess basic knowledge on the subject.
The survey indicates that over one year, the proportion of those who had never heard of the metaverse decreased from 35 percent to 28 percent. Regarding artificial intelligence, the majority of respondents, 82 percent, use it for educational purposes, 54 percent for personal use, and 34 percent in relation to their work.
The research also highlights that opinions on the application of artificial intelligence are divided. The majority of the working-age population believes that AI will reduce the number of jobs available in the future, with 27 percent agreeing with this statement, while a quarter are undecided on the issue.
However, there are significant gender differences in knowledge about the metaverse. Among men, 41 percent have at least some knowledge of it, compared to only 17 percent of women. The proportion of men who are not familiar with the metaverse stands at 19 percent, while it is 38 percent among women.
When it comes to generative artificial intelligence, respondents showed uncertainty, for example, in whether AI always provides factual, accurate answers or if it uses copyrighted materials without permission.
This research suggests that although awareness of AI and the metaverse is growing, there is still room for widespread dissemination of knowledge and showcasing of application possibilities. With the rapid pace of technological advancement and digital trends, it’s crucial that every member of society is adequately informed about the impacts and opportunities of modern technologies.
